This page will try to separate fact from fantasy about one of the most misunderstood and loathed animals in the world. Since my specialty is shark jaws and teeth, there will be a heavy focus on this aspect of shark biology. In fact it is not people who need to be protected from sharks, rather it is sharks who need to be protected from people. Indeed for about 50 shark attacks per year with 10 fatalities, 100 million sharks are killed each year mostly merely in order to cut off their fins for the notorious shark fin soup.
